Rubin Brothers Department Store

Rubin Brothers department store opened in 1895 at the northeast corner of Hegerman Street and Longshore Avenue. This store was a mainstay of the old Tacony commercial corridor along Longshore Avenue and was one of a handful of prominent Jewish-owned businesses in the neighborhood. It co-existed on a block that also included the Tacony Music Hall and Crane's Restaurant. The store was noted for reasonable prices and flexible terms, with "dry goods, clothing and shoes" being its specialty. Today the storefront remains vacant while the rest of the building is divided into apartments. The storefront has not seen commercial activity since the 1970's.
