The history behind the bridge
The Tacony-Palmyra Bridge opened during a torrential rainstorm on August 14, 1929. The one-way fare across the bridge was 35 cents, which was reduced to 5 cents in 1952 after the Burlington County Bridge Commission paid off its purchase bonds. Engineered by Ralph Modjeski, the structure cost $5 million to construct. It is 38 feet wide and 2,324 feet in length
