MEETING NOTICE

The Fall general membership meeting of the Historical Society of Tacony will be held on Monday, November 11th at 6:30 PM at Holy Innocents Saint Paul's Episcopal Church at 7001 Torresdale Avenue.
 
A presentation will be featured by historian Jim Murphy about William Penn and how he turned a "howling wilderness" into America's fastest growing city.  You wlll find out what Philly was really like when Penn arrived in 1682, and why the American Society of Civil Engineers added Penn's plan to its list of Historic Civil Engineering Landmarks. You will hear about our extraordinary City Hall, its claim to fame over a British landmark, and where the iconic building was almost located. Murphy is an author, copywriter and former magazine editor for Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union who has penned over 55 articles on Philadelphia's heroes and historic places. He recently authored a fast-reading book called "Real Philly HIstory, Real Fast."  Signed copies of the book wil be available after the meeting.
 
There will be an update on the organization's activity including the historic house plaque program and ongoing/planned improvements to the Christa Lewis Memorial Arboretum.  A small exhibit will be presented of the William Penn Statue and the facility thtat cast the statue, Tacony Iron and Metal Company.  Light refreshments will be served.
